History

Burgas has been settled since ancient times, with Thracian, Greek, and Roman origins. The area around Burgas Bay was known as Pyrgos in antiquity. Today it is Bulgaria's fourth-largest city and the gateway to the southern Black Sea coast.

Signature Dish: Meshana Skara

Bulgaria's beloved mixed grill: a generous platter of smoky kebapche (seasoned minced meat rolls), kyufte (spiced meatballs), and grilled sausages, served sizzling with a side of shopska salata, lyutenitsa relish, and warm bread. Best enjoyed at a beachside mehana (tavern) with a cold Bulgarian beer as the Black Sea breeze rolls in.
